Agro01

Besides having a wide array of exquisite cuisines, Malaysia is also famous for a great variety of refreshing tropical fruits. Some of them are seasonal while others are available throughout the year. Those in season are normally grown in abundance from June to August. Malaysia’s luscious fruits include the durian, rambutan, ciku, langsat, watermelon, mango, papaya, jackfruit, cempedak, mangosteen, pomelo, banana, starfruit, guava, and pineapple.

马来西亚除了是游客的美食天堂,也是出产新鲜甜美的热带水果名胜地。这些热带水果多半是常年丰收;有些则是属季节性的水果;通常在6月到8月期间产量特别多本地热带水果包括:榴莲、红毛丹、人心果、冷莎、西瓜、芒果、木瓜、波罗蜜、尖必辣、山竹、柚子、香蕉、杨桃、番石榴和凤梨。

Durian (The King of Fruits) 榴莲 (果王)
The durian is a thick-skinned, yellow fruit, oblate and spheroid, surrounded by short and sharp spikes (the word “duri” means thorn). Each fruit is divided into about five sections with each containing a large brown seed covered by thick, yellow custard-like pulp with an odour that lingers even when you belch. The combination of the heavenly odour with the fruit’s rich and thick almond-like flavour and pudding-like texture is simply irresistible to its true fans.

The durian trees, which grow as high as 40 meters, are native to South East Asia and require a year-round warm and humid climate. However, they cannot tolerate a prolonged dry period. Receiving an evenly distributed rainfall of between 1,500-2,000 millimeters per annum helps them to grow well. The durian will fall once it is ripe, thus picking of the fruit from its tree is not necessary. Harvest period is mainly from May to July.

Besides being eaten raw, durians are used to make a wide variety of products like jams, candies, pastries, ice creams, milk shakes, sherbets, durian snack chips, pudding, pancakes and many more.

榴莲的果皮坚实,密生三角形刺,壳里有黄色的果实、扁圆和球状的果肉。每个果实是分成约五个章节,而每一个都由偏黄色的果肉包着棕色的种子。有‘果王’之称的榴莲,气味结合了水果之中的极品,加上那丰厚像杏仁般的色彩和布丁一样的口感,是热爱榴莲的果迷无法抗拒的果王魅力。

榴树是一种巨型的常绿乔木,原长于东南亚地区,树高可达约40米。叶片长圆,顶端较尖,聚伞花序,花色淡黄,果实足球般大小。但是,榴树不能长期生长在干旱的季节;它需要均匀分布的降雨量介于1500至2000年毫米,以便可以生长良好。一旦到榴季节5月至7月间的果实成熟后,就会从树上掉下,所以不必特意去树上采摘。除了生吃,榴是广泛用于制造各种产品例如:果酱、糖果、糕饼、冰激凌、牛奶酪、榴小吃、布丁等。

Mangosteen (The Queen of Fruits) 山竹 (果后)
Like durian, mangosteen known as manggis locally are also quite rare outside South East Asia. The fruit grows in tropical rainforests that receives 2000-2500mm of rainfall, and in a warm, humid and non-seasonal rainfall areas.

Mangosteen begins to bear fruit 7 to 12 years after planting. Ripe mangosteen is dark red and tastes best if harvested before turning purple or blue-black. The fruit is about 6-7cm in diameter, the size of a mandarin orange.

To open the fruit, cut through the skin only and lightly pull and twist the fruit apart. However, experienced mangosteen eaters will use their thumbs to squeeze and break the fruit open. There are about 4 to 8 white to pinkish juicy segments in the fruit that are edible. The fruit generally has a delicate taste, sweetly acidic, and the pulp melts in the mouth.

山竹被东南亚地区的人称为manggis。生长在热带雨林的山竹,平均雨量约2000 – 2500毫米,并聚集在热带潮湿和非季节性降雨区域生长。

一般的山竹都需要在种植7至12年后才结果实。成熟的山竹是暗红色的,如果在果实还没转紫色或蓝黑色前采摘,那是最恰当的甜度。水果直径约6-7厘米,大小相当于一蜜橘。

欲将山竹拨开,只须轻轻将果皮拉扭就可看见白色的果肉。不过,经验丰富的山竹食用者会利用他们的大拇指向山竹挤压,就可以将果皮拨开。每粒果实大约有4至8粒白色的果肉,味道甜中带酸,入口即溶。

Guava 番石榴
The guava is round in shape, with a thin greenish-yellow skin and a flesh of varying thickness. The outer layer of its flesh is a finely granular pulp while the inside is softer pulp with many small hard seeds. Some varieties are seedless.

番石榴果实圆形,具薄浅绿黄色的果皮和丰厚的果肉。外层较硬的皮部,但其果肉爽脆,内部有一些细小的细颗粒状种子。而有些品种则无种子的。

Starfruit 杨桃
Some say that although the stars in the sky cannot be plucked, we are blessed with the “stars” that grow from the ground. Also known as carambola, the yellow flesh of the starfruit is enclosed in a crisp skin.

天上的星星摘不到,但是大地上却种植了一种外表像天上星星般的水果叫杨桃。皮薄,浅黄或浅青色的果皮,果肉香甜多汁。

Pineapple 凤梨
The prize for the most ‘elegant’ fruit must go to the pineapple, as the fruit has a ‘crown’ comprising succulent erect leaves arranged in a rosette.

Originating from South America, the pineapple is sub acidic to sweet. It is best eaten with a pinch of salt to give it a smoother taste.

To eat a pineapple, the top and bottom of the fruit should be chopped off, the skin removed and the fruit cut into slices. Pineapple is known as nanas in Malay.

凤梨也称菠萝可说是最‘优雅’的水果,因为它有一个叶片直立形成像皇冠般的顶部。原产于南美洲,凤梨是分酸性和甜性的水果,最好是在吃的时候攒一点盐,更有香甜的口感。吃凤梨时,顶部和底部的果实应切掉,皮和果实切成片就可。凤梨的马来语称为‘nanas’。

Pomelo 柚子
The pomelo is a large citrus fruit that is made up of 10 to 15 sections. The taste ranges from sweet to slightly sour. It is popular during the Chinese festivals.

柚子的果肉分为10至15片,带甜味但有时略酸。在农历节庆时,最常见的水果。

Agro07

Mango 芒果
The mango is available in various sizes and shapes, depending on the variety. They are highly nutritious and an excellent source of beta-carotene.

When buying mangoes, get those that are firm, aromatic and have no black marks on the skin. Colour is not a good indication of ripeness of a mango though, as some varieties remain green even when they are ripe. Some will turn yellow or bright red.

芒果拥有决于品种不同大小的尺寸和形状,并有高营养和丰富的胡萝卜素。

当购买芒果时,选择较硬的果状,芬香以及果皮没有任何黑点的为佳。由于有些芒果成熟时是绿色,有的则变黄或鲜红色,所以皮的颜色不能鉴定是否成熟了,决于其品种。

Jackfruit 波罗蜜
The jackfruit or nangka is the largest edible tree-grown fruit. As the fruits are huge, they are borne on the main tree branches and the trunks, and sometimes even from the surface roots of the tree. They are pale green in colour and change to yellowish-brown during ripening. The ripe fruit exudes a musty, sweet aroma.

Jackfruits are surrounded by sticky sap, thus it is advisable to coat the knife, your hands and the cutting board with vegetable oil before cutting the fruit. Fruit stalls often sell jackfruit segments skewered on a stick. This is an easier way to savour the aromatic fruit without having to endure the sticky sap.

Besides being eaten fresh, the flesh can also be used in desserts, ice creams, soup and certain dishes. Jackfruit seeds are also cooked in curry dishes, tasting a bit like potatoes when cooked this way.

菠萝蜜或nangka是世界最多的树产性水果。由于水果是巨大的,所以其茎部是直接长于树上,有时甚至从地面就开始长于树根。果实成熟时果皮从绿转淡黄棕色,并有浓郁的甜香气。

由于波罗蜜在拨开时会有粘粘的液体,所以当欲拨开它时必须将刀和双手涂上食油,以方便切割。通常水果档的小贩都会将果肉串成一串,方便顾客食用。

波罗蜜除了可以生吃以外,还可以用于甜点、冰激凌、汤和一些菜肴的配搭。菠萝蜜的种子也可以用于煮咖喱,味道有点像红薯。

Banana 香蕉
Bananas, locally known as pisang, is a large herbaceous plant and a non-seasonal bearer. Each tree stem flowers and fruits only once. The banana fruit is a berry and protected by a skin. When unripe, the fruit is normally green and turns yellow when ripe.

There are basically two types of bananas – those that can be eaten raw like pisang mas, rastali and the Jamaican banana, and those that are made into banana fritters or pisang goreng.

Bananas can also be used to make jam, chips, flour, jelly and canned in syrup. To eat a banana, simply peel off its “skin”.

香蕉于本地被称为pisang,是一种草本植物和非季节性的植物。每棵树茎的花朵和果实只盛开一次。香蕉通常是从绿色转变成黄色才属成熟的果实。

基本来说,香蕉分为两个种类,一种是可以生吃的;像pisang mas,rastali 和牙买加香蕉的品种;而另一种则不可以生吃的就用来制成香蕉小吃或做成炸香蕉。

香蕉还可以用来作果酱、面粉、果冻和糖浆罐头食品等。

Papaya 木瓜
The papaya or betik, is also a herbaceous plant like the banana. The fruit is oval, with a thin, waxy skin that turns from green to yellow when ripe.

Papaya is usually eaten fresh, after the skin is peeled, the seeds removed. Alternatively, cut the fruit into half, remove the seeds, and scoop the juicy flesh with a spoon.

木瓜或betik,也是如香蕉一样的草本植物。果实是椭圆形,果皮薄,成熟时从绿转黄色。

木瓜通常是新鲜享用,去皮后将种子剥掉就可食用,或直接将木瓜切半,去掉种子,用匙子挖起即食。

Ciku 人心果
Ciku is an oval fruit, about 5-10cm long, and brown in color. Its appearance could be likened to the Kiwi fruit minus the hairy texture. When ripe, its flesh is yellowish to pinkish brown, soft and sweet.

人心果是一个椭圆形的水果,约5-10厘米长,棕色的果皮。它的外观可以比喻为猕猴桃减去毛茸茸的果皮。成熟时的人心果,肉是黄色至粉褐色,软又甜。

Duku Langsat 冷赛果
Its clear juicy flesh is wrapped in a thin golden brown skin. Although it is slighty sour, the duku langsat is unique and very tasty.

冷赛果外观有薄薄的一层外皮,包裹着晶莹剔透的果肉,略酸的果肉吃起来特别好滋味。

Rambutan 红毛丹
The rambutan has an interesting appearance. It has a hairy red, rubbery shell that hides a sweet and succulent white fruit. There is also a yellow variety.

Rambutan grows in small bunches on the tree. They normally fruit twice a year from July to November and March to July. The fruit is harvested when majority of the fruits turn red, or yellow, depending on their varieties.

Rambutan is considered as one of the premier dessert fruits. To open a rambutan, simply break open the skin using your thumbnail. Discard the seed after eating the flesh.

红毛丹有一个有趣的外观。它红毛茸茸,壳胶状隐藏甜和白的果实肉质。有些红毛丹是黄色品种的。

长在树上一束束的红毛丹,通常季节性结果实一年两次,即7月至11月和3月至7月。适合采摘的红毛丹大部分在等到果实转红或黄,视其品种而定。

红毛丹被认为是首选的甜品水果。欲拨开一个红毛丹,只需将其果皮拨开即可食用。

Coconut 椰子
The coconut is perhaps the most cooling fruit available. The water and flesh of young coconuts, rich in potassium and other minerals are known for their cooling properties, which are especially adored in this tropical country.

Nowadays, savouring young coconuts is no more a hassle as most of them have their hard, outer shell removed and the top portion of the coconut has been cut off for convenience. All you have to do is poke a straw into the exposed flesh on top and you’re on your way to enjoy the most refreshing drink on earth. You can scrape the insides of the coconut to enjoy the delicious white flesh. The drink is not only delicious but also nutritious at the same time.

椰子可算是马来西亚这个热带国家最清凉的水果了。幼椰子的水和肉实,富含钾及其他矿物质,有冷却作用的性能。

现在如果想要享用新鲜的幼椰子非常方便,出售的椰子硬壳通常都已经扯开,方便饮用的人将饮管插入即饮。此外,您也可以刮那雪白可口的椰肉品尝,不但清爽还能解暑呢!

Dragon Fruit 火龙果
The dragon fruit grows on a tropical climbing cactus. It is large, oblong with a red peel and large green scales. The flesh can vary from pearly-white to red colors, dotted with a mass of edible black seeds. It is sweet and rich in vitamins.

火龙果属仙人掌植物类。其果实呈橄榄状,亮丽夺目的鲜红外皮,雪白或血红色的果肉,还有像芝麻状的种子。果肉甜而不腻,清香中带有一点芬芳,并含有丰富的维他命。

Watermelon 西瓜
The flesh of this fruit comes in two colors – red and yellow. Full of nutrients (vitamins and minerals) the watermelon is a great thirst quencher in a tropical country. The fruit is a favorite among the locals, old and young alike.

西瓜分为两种,那就是红色及黄色果肉的西瓜。它拥有多种维他命及人体所需的矿物质。炎热时,有解渴的效用,大人小孩都爱吃。

AGRO-TOURISM DESTINATIONS IN MALAYSIA 农业旅游景点

Having so many fruits, crops, plantations and natural resources, it is no surprise that agro tourism is getting more and more popular in Malaysia. There are many agro-tourism spots in the country that offer visitors a chance to personally pick fruits and vegetables, tap a rubber tree, harvest paddy and pluck oil palm fruits.
